The Rorate Mass is a special devotion to our Lady during the Advent Season. Happening before dawn, the MAss takes place in darkness apart from the light of multiple candles, brightening the otherwise murky church atmosphere. 
"Rorate" is taken from the Introit of the Mass. As we read in Isaiah 45:8:

“Rorate, caeli, desuper, et nubes pluant justum, aperiatur terra, et germinet Salvatorem.”

“Drop down dew, ye heavens, from above, and let the clouds rain the just: let the earth be opened and bud forth a Saviour.”

Advent prepares this darkened world for the coming of her Savior at Christmas. Christ's Light dis pells the darkness of sin and death. What we celebrate at our Lord's first coming turns our hope-filled hearts to that definitive coming of Jesus in triumph at the end of time.
